On Wednesday morning, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) appeared on CNN, and Scott shared a personal story from when he was very critical of President Donald Trump.
He explained that during the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, he was extremely critical and had “harsh comments about the president.”
“I was very candid about my displeasure and how I found some of his exhibits to be indefensible. He invited me into the Oval Office after my criticism, and I found something quite surprising happening in the Oval Office.”
Trump explained, “We’re not on the same page on the history of race relations in this country. Help me find a way forward.”
Scott responded by “talking about legislative remedies that would help poor kids in poor communities like the ones” he grew up in. Eventually, their conversation led to a bipartisan approach to passing new legislation.
CNN’s Alisyn Camerota responded, “I think that’s a really valuable story.”
